The Teacher Story

I dreaded when someone asked what I did... I avoided networking fearing others would find me strange and reject me. It took a lot of lessons before I stepped into my full grace. I am a channel of light, mother, entrepreneur, yoga teacher, healer, and intuitive spiritual teacher. I believe my purpose is to lead others to discover themselves, their passions and to connect to Spirit so they can utilize the guidance sent to them. I used to shrink away from my life purpose, but I learned that you can never leave your path. It is you.

I was born to a family of healers and intuitives. My grandparents led healing circles, and could move energy through their bodies for healing. My father recalls my grandfather laying his hands on him when he was ill. From the stories that I have been told it's simply in my blood. As a child I would go to church alone and spend time sitting in chapels to be closer to God. A knowing that God was in everything. The old churches were my favorite. There I could feel the presence of God everywhere. I knew that my heart was the direct link that connected me. I had a keen understanding that if I followed my heart, it would never lead me wrong. I think that I've always meditated. I recall staring into a flame until I disappeared into it. I became fascinated by Edgar Cayce books, I could not read enough of them. A life long friend introduced me to crystals, and I learned how to do healing and meditation with them. My first crystal was a Herkimer diamond. So you see, healing has always been a part of my life.

I have practiced and studied yoga for 20 years. I have been teaching for 9 years. I studied yoga at the Himalayan Institute in New York City . Two of my most beloved teachers and gurus (both from the old tradition of yoga) are Tao Porchon-Lynch, and Mildred Gladwin. Tao was one of Mr Iyengar’s first students, sitting in her presence you know that you are in front of someone who lives in spirit. Mildred has been doing yoga over 40 years, and has studied with great teachers such as Lilias Folan, and Bikram. Yoga has assisted me in making changes to my life that were necessary for my growth. I have been practicing yoga for half of my entire life.

I was severely broken upon arriving in North Carolina . Raising a sick child, a baby and being a single mom had me feeling depleted. I was fortunate enough to take my first yoga class in Charlotte with Grace Morales. She introduced me to her sister MyLinda Morales-Hutchings who is an amazing medical intuitive. I studied with MyLinda about 2 years. The lessons and tools that I gained from her brought me back to health and wholeness, while reinforcing my own intuitive abilities.

Note-worthy teachers I have studied with include: Robin Rose Bennett, Susan Weed, Rodney Yee, Aadil Pakhilvala, Brooke Medicine Eagle, Wallace Black Elk, Ubaka Hill, Himalayan Institute, and Gabrielle Roth.

I instruct individuals, groups, and workshops throughout Charlotte . Yoga at the Harris ExPress, and the McCrorey YMCAs. I also teach movement, yoga and meditation at the Renfrew Center which is geared toward helping women heal from eating disorders. The work is both challenging and rewarding. My job as an instructor is to assist students in feeling the hum that exists in the universe, and find the power that connects them to all of life. My philosophy is "when they think they cannot, the body responds... but when they think that they can, and they can see it, the body responds as well". We are what we believe and nothing is impossible.

I tell students that yoga is an internal process. You must release your expectations and limitations. If you believe that you cannot do something the body will agree with you. You've already created a block by this belief. When you let go of your limitations and tap into the magic that exists within, you can achieve the impossible, and the body will gladly follow. Each posture is a lesson that leads you on a journey of healing and connects you to the divine, if you just let it.

My workshops are stimulating. I've had the opportunity to meet and connect with wonderful people. Please follow the links to see the workshops that are presently available. IE; meditation, stress reduction, the art of forgiveness, tapping into your passion, creating sacred relationships, and others. It is my desire to assist others in finding their passion so that they can live in Ecstasy. That is what Donah’s Passions is all about.
